Luka Modric says Sunday’s trip to Liverpool will ‘show what we’re made of’.
The midfielder was outstanding again as we suffered a 1-0 defeat at Manchester City on Tuesday night.
The scoreline didn’t tell the full story at Eastlands. We dominated for long periods but couldn’t break down a resolute home defence as City secured fourth place in the Premier League.
Luka came close to opening the scoring in the 28th minute and just two minutes later, City scored what turned out to be the winner as Peter Crouch turned James Milner’s cross into his own net.
Joe Hart made an outstanding save from Steven Pienaar’s header as we dominated the second half without reward.
The result leaves us to fight it out with Liverpool for fifth place.
In-form Reds are now two points ahead of us in fifth with two games remaining including another key encounter when we travel to Anfield on Sunday.
“Liverpool are playing well, they are in excellent form and it will be another interesting game,” said Luka.
“I hope we can produce the same performance as we did at City but this time with the right result.
“I’m looking forward to it. They are a great team and it will show what we are made of.
"We are out of the Champions League but we now need to fight for fifth place. We need to show our character.”
Turning back to Eastlands, Luka felt we deserved more from the game. “It’s a shame that I didn’t score, it was so close, but overall we played well and we should have got a better result," he said.
“I think we can be happy with how we played and we need to keep it going.”
