Moura after more

Mon 19 February 2018, 12:50|Tottenham Hotspur

Lucas Moura grinned as he said ‘I don’t remember my last goal’ after scoring on his first start for us at Rochdale - the first step on what he hopes is an exciting path here at Spurs.

For the record, his last goal was the fifth in a 5-1 win for PSG at Metz on September 8.

Having made his Spurs debut late off the bench in our 2-2 draw at Juventus, Lucas, 25, who arrived from PSG last month, stepped out for his first start at Spotland in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

He looked at home straight away and a few darting runs in the first half had the travelling Spurs fans – who filled the whole of Spotland’s Willbutts Lane Stand – on their feet.

He opened his account on the hour, latching into Moussa Sissoko’s pass to finish past Josh Lillis and equalise Ian Henderson’s goal just before the break.

“It was a great moment,” said Lucas. “I don't remember my last goal! I'm so happy with my team, my new friends and I'm really excited to play more.”

He may well face Rochdale again soon. Harry Kane came off the bench to hand us a late lead from the penalty spot only for Rochdale to earn another shot thanks to Steve Davies’ strike for 2-2 in injury time. The replay is provisionally set for Wednesday 28 February at Wembley.

“The important thing was not to lose this game,” continued Lucas.

“It was a very hard game. Rochdale were strong and made it difficult but we tried and now we need to prepare for the second game (replay) at Wembley. I'm sure we can play a big game and we can win.

“Of course, I wanted the win but I'm so, so happy with my first game (start) and my first goal. I haven't started a game since August, so I'm happy.”
