Despite not featuring at all during pre-season, Dean was his usual tower of strength at the heart of defence alongside Chris Perry and fellow comeback boy Ledley King.
"I'm just glad to get through it," said Dean afterwards. "Physically, not great towards the end, but the main thing is my Achilles tendon and it felt fine throughout.
"I know it is not 100 per cent right, when I came out for the warm-up it was a bit sore, but that is the same as last season and when it gets warm it is not a problem.
"If it stays like that then I'll be happy. The main thing for me was the Achilles rather than fitness - because that will come - and it felt fine during the game.
"I've been training now for a week and this is my first game since West Brom away last season but, like I say, I am not worried about the physical side."
Dean added that he feels he might need a couple more run-outs before contemplating a first team return.
"I think I will need a couple of games. Tonight was a good test because they had an experienced team out and it was a good tempo. It's still not a Premiership game with the excitement and the crowd and I think I'll need a game or two more before I can come back and play in the first team."
