The inspirational defender has missed the last four games with a back injury but returned to training last week and is making good progress towards a return.
"It's going well," he reported. "I trained for about three or four days last week and joined in with the lads - it is good to be back out there.
"I'll keep on training and try and get a bit of fitness back.
"It's still not 100 per cent, probably about 90. It feels good though and I'm alright playing, it just stiffens up a bit afterwards. During training it is fine - that's the main thing."
Dean added that, should the call come, he would be happy to take the field against City.
"It's down to the manager, he'll take a look at it during the week, how I train and if I look fit.
"I feel I'm able to play."
Dean Richards revealed that he hopes to be in contention for a place against Manchester City at the Lane on Friday.
