With 11 games remaining this season - six of them at the Lane - John is acutely aware that home advantage must be seized.
Nicely poised for a European push, he feels that there is an optimism around the camp that objectives can be realised this season.
"Absolutely. We do know we have to win these games," said John, who admits that the 3-2 reverse at Loftus Road in September still rankles slightly. "It is a local derby as well and they beat us 3-2 over there, which was a big disappointment as we were 2-0 up at half-time.
"We look back on that game now and kick ourselves because we should have won it. They were on a high then as well and were probably fitter than us because they took part in the Inter Toto Cup.
"We are on an even keel now, we're in the driving seat, we're at home and have come off a win."
John Gorman agrees that the team are in pretty good shape heading into the final stages of the season, but insists the threat of Fulham must be dealt with tonight.
