Steven Caulker impressed again for Bristol City but was on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
The young centre-back put in another 90-minute shift for the Robins - his 20th start in the Championship this term - and was forced to defend well as Forest looked to extend their unbeaten home record.
In the end, Forest did just that with a 47th-minute goal from Luka Chambers to move into fifth. Danny Rose remained sidelined through injury.
Injury also forced Kyle Walker to miss out as Villa made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Wigan while Ryan Mason was an unused substitute as Doncaster suffered a 2-0 defeat to Barnsley in the Championship.
In League One, Harry Kane and Paul-Jose M'poku came off the bench in the 39th and 76th minutes respectively in Leyton Orient's 2-2 draw against MK Dons.
