John Bostock scored a spectacular opening goal on his debut for Hull City on the first day of the Football League season on Saturday.

The young midfielder joined the Tigers on a season-long loan only on Friday and quickly became a hit with fans on Humberside, hitting a 30-yard screamer into the top corner just 23 minutes in as Nigel Pearson's side began their Championship campaign with a 2-0 home win over Swansea.

John was just one of three of our young players to make debuts for Football League clubs they have joined on loan during the past week.

Goalkeeper David Button put in a confident display as Plymouth Argyle upset League One title hopefuls Southampton with a 1-0 win at St Mary's.

David made a number of key saves, most notably late on when he turned over a fierce Adam Lallana strike to help Peter Reid to his first win in charge of the Pilgrims.

But it wasn't such a memorable day for another of our young stoppers, Oscar Jansson, who saw three goals go past him without reply in Northampton Town's defeat at Torquay United in League Two.
