Loan watch - midweek update

Simon Dawkins and our partner club San Jose Earthquakes' MLS Cup dream is over.

Loan watch - midweek update

Having won the first leg of the Western Conference semi-final 1-0 at LA Galaxy on Sunday, Galaxy hit back in some style to win the second leg 3-1 at San Jose on Wednesday night to take the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Simon played the full 90 minutes and had three efforts at goal but a double from his former team-mate and Spurs legend Robbie Keane saw the Galaxy home.

It means Earthquakes - who finished top of the Western Conference in the regular season - have to settle for the prestigious Supporters Shield award to mark a season where they finished with the best regular season record in the MLS.

However, they will miss out on being crowned MLS champions for another year as Galaxy continue to defend their title.

Galaxy will now play either Real Salt Lake or Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference Final before facing the winners of the Eastern Conference in the MLS Cup Final on December 1.

TUESDAY ACTION

Jordan Archer was inspired as Wycombe earned an important point at Aldershot on Tuesday night.

The young goalkeeper made an incredible triple save to deny the Shots in the first half as it ended 0-0 at the Recreation Ground.

Jordan had already saved from Peter Vincenti when the same player tried his luck again, only for the goalkeeper to save his first effort, then his follow up. That wasn't all though - Jordan was then up again to save as Craig Reid followed in for the third time.

Jordan kept Wycombe on level terms in the opening half-hour but the game changed after that as Shots' Anthony Tonkin was sent off. Wycombe had the better of it from there but it remained goalless. Jack Munns was an unsued substitute for Aldershot.

In the Championship, Adam Smith played 90 minutes and helped Millwall to a 0-0 draw at Watford, making a key challenge as Fernando Forestieri broke through in the first half.

WEEKEND ACTION

Adam Smith made an encouraging debut for in-form Millwall in the Championship on Saturday.

The flying full-back played 90 minutes as the Lions produced a fine 4-1 victory against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Adam was involved in Millwall's opening goal after just three minutes - he was fouled and from the resulting free-kick, Liam Trotter fired home.

Two of our younger players made their debuts in the FA Cup.

Nathan Byrne only lasted 27 minutes after picking up an ankle injury as Crawley Town overcame a tough away tie in the first round with a 2-1 win at Met Police.

Jordan Archer saved a penalty for Wycombe at Crewe but he could do little to stop the Alex running away with a 4-1 win with two goals in each half.

In the Premier League, Danny Rose was an unused substitute as Sunderland lost 1-0 at home to Villa.

Away from the UK and Simon Dawkins and our partner club San Jose Earthquakes claimed a huge win in the MLS play-offs.

On his way back from an ankle injury, Simon came off the bench just before the hour as the Earthquakes scored a 94th-minute winner in their Western Conference semi-final, first leg against LA Galaxy at the Home Depot Center, 1-0 the final score.

The teams meet again in San Jose on Wednesday for a place in the Western Conference final. Real Salt Lake and Seattle are contesting the other semi-final and drew 0-0 in the first leg.

In Greece, Bongani Khumalo played 90 minutes as PAOK beat Panionios 2-1 in a second-vs-third match in the Greek Super League.

In Russia, David Bentley played 62 minutes as FC Rostov suffered a 2-1 defeat at Zenit in the Russian Premier League.
