Loan watch - goal delight for Alex and Azza

Posted on 13 April 2015  - 09:47

Alex Pritchard and Aaron Lennon got the weekend off to a good start for our loanees, firing their respective sides ahead in the early kick-offs on Saturday.

Alex Pritchard fires home for Brentford against Derby CountyAaron Lennon celebrates his goal for Everton against Swansea City

Midfielder Alex, who played 86 minutes for Brentford, cut in from the left and curled a shot into the far corner of the net to put the Bees into a 28th-minute lead at Derby County – the Rams netting a late equaliser through ex-Spur Darren Bent as the Championship contest ended 1-1.

And it was a similar story for Aaron, who put Everton ahead in their eventual 1-1 draw at Swansea City in the Premier League. The winger fired in from a James McCarthy cross four minutes before half-time, going on to complete the full 90 minutes.

In League One, two of our on-loan players found themselves on opposing sides as Grant Ward’s Coventry City secured a 1-0 home win over Bongani Khumalo’s Colchester United – both playing the full game – while Dele Alli started for MK Dons, the midfielder being withdrawn 62 minutes into their goalless draw at Port Vale.

Goalkeeper Jordan Archer was on the bench for Millwall in their 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Watford in the Championship, while it was a busy weekend for our lads in League Two – albeit with a mixed bag of results.

Defender Dominic Ball completed 90 minutes for Cambridge United in their 2-2 draw at home to Accrington Stanley while forward Shaq Coulthirst played 82 for York City as the 10-man Minstermen won 1-0 at home to Hartlepool United. Attacker Nathan Oduwa, meanwhile, was back in the fold for Luton Town and went on as a 68th-minute substitute for the Hatters in their 1-0 defeat at home to Burton Albion.

In Germany, Lewis Holtby completed 90 minutes for Hamburg as they suffered a 2-0 home Bundesliga defeat to Wolfsburg.

Wide attacker Emmanuel Sonupe, meanwhile, will be hoping for some further game time this evening (Monday, April 13) when his St Mirren side plays host to Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.
