Bongani Khumalo played a key role in helping Preston claim a valuable point in a relegation six-pointer at Doncaster in the Championship on Tuesday.

The defender headed Keith Treacy’s 80th minute corner against the bar and Paul Hayes put home the rebound to cancel out Brian Stock’s opener three minutes earlier.

The result leaves Phil Brown’s ever-improving side seven points away of safety, with Crystal Palace also picking up a valuable point at Leicester.

Doncaster are only two further points ahead of the Eagles, and Ryan Mason was an unused sub for them at the Keepmoat.

Andros Townsend continued to impress for Millwall but could not help them break the deadlock as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bristol City at the New Den.

And it was another disappointing night for Jake Livermore, who made his second successive start for Leeds, but suffered a second successive defeat, this time at the hands of former club Derby at Pride Park.

Into League One, Jon Obika continued his good form since returning to Yeovil, who inflicted a 2-1 defeat upon Notts County in Martin Allen’s first game in charge of them at Huish Park.

Harry Kane started for Leyton Orient and was denied a headed goal on 17 minutes by a fine Adam Collin save as Carlisle held the East Londoners to a 0-0 draw at Brisbane Road.

Paul-Jose M’Poku replaced his Spurs team-mate on the hour mark and produced a cross that Dean Cox should have converted for the winner three minutes from time, but it wasn’t to be. Tom Carroll was an unused sub for the O’s.

Finally, Nathan Byrne came off the bench for Brentford seven minutes from time but could not prevent a 3-2 defeat for the Bees at Walsall, while Cameron Lancaster was an unused sub for Dagenham & Redbridge as Brighton claimed promotion to the Championship with a 4-3 victory over John Still’s side at the Withdean.
