In an entertaining encounter between two in-form teams at Anfield, Liverpool took the lead twice only for us to hit back to level on both occasions before Mario Balotelli’s 83rd-minute winner saw the Reds home 3-2.
Lazar Markovic fired Liverpool in front on 15 minutes before a fine move ended with Erik Lamela’s reverse pass finding Harry Kane, who made no mistake from 14 yards for 1-1 on 26 minutes, the striker’s 23rd of the season.
Steven Gerrard slotted home a penalty for 2-1 after 53 minutes only for Mousa Dembele to convert from close range to level again just after the hour.
It could have gone either way but with seven minutes remaining Balotelli, off the bench, had the final word to inflict only a second defeat in our last 11 in the Premier League.
“We’re all disappointed to concede that late goal,” said Ryan at Anfield.
“We’ve proved this season that we have character and resilience. We came back twice and we’re all gutted we let it slip at the end.
“I don’t think either team played particularly well and a draw would have been a fair result.”
