The midfielder made a successful comeback at the Riverside following five months on the sidelines with a stress fracture of the foot.
Jamie came on at half-time and marked his return within five minutes - curling home a delightful free-kick into the top corner from 30 yards.
But it was a rare highlight in a 5-1 defeat. "It was nice to be back out there but it was a disappointing day all round," said the 29-year-old.
"I thought we looked good in the first 20 minutes, knocked the ball around well, created a couple of chances but it all changed so quickly. We were 1-0 down then suddenly it was 2-0 and down to 10 men and we never really looked like recovering from that.
"It was a huge disappointment for everyone because we wanted to finish well.
"So yes, it was good to be back, but it wasn't ideal circumstances.
"It's been disappointing to miss out for five months especially having played 15 games at the start of the season but at least I know now I'll be okay for next season."
Jamie Redknapp took little satisfaction from his return to Premiership action in the defeat at Middlesbrough.
