Leo's pain gain

English Barclays Premiership

Oyvind Leonhardsen is still fighting the pain barrier as the season approaches. He returned to action this pre-season and has played in every friendly so far after missing out on Euro2000 to rest a heel problem which restricted him to handful of games between December and May.

However, the Norwegian star is still feeling some discomfort and admitted: "It's still a bit sore but I've been able to train every day and be involved in the games so it is going forward every day.

"It was a big disappointment to miss out on Euro2000 but I just looked ahead to the season and everything should be fine. I've been able to do everything so I haven't been complaining.

"Hopefully when we kick off on the 19th I will be ready for the season. I would love this to be a season without injuries."

Fans' favourite 'Leo' made a huge impact after joining us from Liverpool just before the start of last term. He was regularly on the scoresheet and most memorably banged in the goal that sent us to the top of the Premiership in August.

On that day, he walked off the pitch at Hillsborough with 5,000 travelling fans chanting his name - something he would love to see again.

"I had a good start last season and I would love to do the same this season. This time it would be great to have that not just at the beginning but through to the end as well. I just hope to be injury free."
