Norway’s World Cup campaign has been a huge disappointment after their recent, glorious history of reaching - and then making an impact in - major tournaments.
But they go into Wednesday night’s qualifier against Wales bottom of Group Five without a win in eight games.
Midfielder ‘Leo’, capped over 70 times by his country, has played his part in Norway’s great achievements of the past and is now looking beyond 2002.
“It has been a disappointing campaign but we have nothing to lose now and we have to look forward to try and build a team for 2004,” he said.
“We will do our best. We are playing for pride as well this week.”
And what about 2004? “I would still like to be involved then,” added Leo. “Why not? If I am fit then I am always ready to play for my country.”
Oyvind Leonhardsen says Norway have to build for the future — a future he wants to be part of.
