Aaron Lennon couldn't hide his disappointment at having to sit it out as England Under-21s take on France at the Lane tonight.

The lightning winger tweaked a hamstring in training last week, forcing him out of Monday's Premiership clash at Bolton and out of contention for the European Under-21 Championship play-off.

"It's a bit of a blow because I'd only just got into the Under-21 squad, had a couple of good games and I'm gutted not to have the chance to play.

missing this game, especially at White Hart Lane as well, that would have been great for me.

"We've picked up a few injuries but we've still got a brilliant squad and we'll fancy our chances to beat anyone over two legs.

"I know the game has sold well and that can only help. There were 25,000 at Leeds when I made my debut for the Under-21s and that was brilliant, so any more than that will be fantastic. It will give the lads a real buzz to run out."
