Legends head to face the 'Rank Outsiders'

The Spurs Legends side face one of their longest trips of the year this Sunday (July 7) as they head to Gloucestershire to take on a team known as the ‘Rank Outsiders’.

Our intrepid veterans team, which regularly includes the likes of Andy Sinton, Justin Edinburgh, Garry Brooke and Paul Miller, will be heading west looking to maintain their unbeaten run, which stretches right back to the beginning of 2013.

There is also expected to be a rare Legends team appearance by 1972 UEFA Cup winner Phil Beal on Sunday.
Phil, now 68, played for the Legends side during last summer’s trip to Torbay on the south coast, and admitted he thoroughly enjoyed his run-out, in what was the first time he’d set foot on a football pitch in seven years!

“I was a little bit sore after the game, but that’s a natural thing,” he said after last year’s outing. “It was seven years since I last played so it was good to get through 45 minutes!”

The lads’ opponents on Sunday have ample experience of facing former top level footballers – they’ve lined up against the Aston Villa Old Stars team on more than one occasion, but they’re eager to test themselves against our Legends this year so an intriguing game is expected.

The match takes place at the Steam Mills Recreation Ground, Steam Mills Road, Steam Mills, Cinderford, Glos. GL14 3JB. Kick-off will be at 2pm, with tickets available on the gate.
