Ledley King insists Martin Jol was the ideal candidate to replace the departed Jacques Santini as Head Coach.
Martin's appointment was duly rubber-stamped on Monday and his first game in charge resulted in a 3-0 Carling Cup win over Burnley at Turf Moor.
The defender admits that Jacques leaving took him by surprise, but is happy he has been replaced with a man the squad were already enjoying working with.
"Obviously I was surprised and no-one was expecting it," reflected Ledley of the change. "These things happen in the football and you have to get on with it quickly.
"Everyone enjoyed working with Martin while Jacques was here and it is nice that he is in charge now. His methods are a little bit different and I think he wants to bring a bit of the old Tottenham football back into it.
"Tuesday's performance was good and hopefully we can move on from there.
"It is important to start off, get a good basis and we did that. Now, hopefully, we can keep a solid defence and get a few more bodies forward, which I'm sure we would have done anyway."
Ledley added that, while Martin is a big personality who will offer strong leadership, he expects working with the Dutchman will also be good fun.
"The lads have always enjoyed his training and he puts on good sessions. He is a tough character who is passionate about his football and hopefully that will shine through in the team."
