The young defender, still only 23 but with over 100 games to his name, was selected by Sven Goran Eriksson for Portugal yesterday.
Ledley has come through the ranks at the club and hasn't forgotten the coaches who helped him along the way.
"I'd like to thank Pat Holland, Bobby Arber and of course Chris Hughton," said Ledley after the squad announcement. "They have all played massive roles in my development in my time at the club.
"There are a lot of people to thank including my parents. This has to be the personal highlight of my career so far and these people are all part of it."
As for the moment his selection was confirmed, he added: "I watched it on television like everyone else.
"I had my fingers crossed but I also knew that, with Southgate and Woodgate out, I did have a chance. When my name was read out, there was a bit of clenched fist and a 'yes!'"
Ledley King paid tribute to his coaches at Spurs after his call-up for the European Championships.
