Shearer opened the scoring for Newcastle against Manchester City in what was later clocked as 10.4 seconds on Saturday.
That means Ledley's amazing goal in 10.0 seconds at Bradford City in December 2000 remains the quickest by a fraction in the Premiership.
"I hadn't thought about it for a while," he said. "I think it was Gus who told me at Villa that Shearer had scored in 10 seconds so I started wondering whose was the quickest."
So what does he remember about his goal? "We kicked-off, knocked the ball into their half, they've headed it down and I picked it up about 25 yards out and hit it straight away.
"It took a massive deflection and sent the keeper totally the wrong way. It almost didn't feel like my goal because of that deflection but I'll take it!"
