The central defender has looked every inch an international thoroughbred so far this season and looks certain to feature alongside John Terry at the back. Ledley, who captained Spurs against Birmingham last weekend, admits that he is growing in confidence and beginning to relish the platform international football.
"If I am selected it is another competition for me," he considered. "It is a little break from the Premiership and the football is a bit different, it is interesting and exciting.
"I think I am a little more comfortable, after going away before and spending a lot of time with the squad, I really look forward to it.
"It has possibly made me more confident. Last season I wasn't playing at the back as much and I think it has helped that I am playing in my favourite position.
"I haven't started too many competitive games for England - only one against France - so it would be nice to feature in the qualifiers."
Ledley King says he is looking forward to a likely first World Cup appearance for England against Austria in Vienna tonight.
