+Ledley's high point

Posted on 6 July 2005  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Ledley King did not have to ponder for too long when asked to pick out a high point from last season.

The skipper rightly pointed out that there were a number of displays worthy of a mention for different reasons, but one in particular stood out.

There were, of course, the high-scoring encounters against Southampton and Aston Villa, as well as good points won on the road at the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool. But, like many of the fans who wrote in with their stories of the season, Ledley had to look back no further than New Year's Day when high-flying Everton arrived at the Lane and left with a big dent in their 'goals against' tally.

"There are a few performances you could pick out, but the home game against Everton was a great one," recalled the England international. "They have been a tough team to beat all season and to do what we did to them was great at the time.

"The Villa one was another of our best, but there were others when we had to dig deep like away at Chelsea. Not many teams have picked up anything at Stamford Bridge.

"They are performances we want to build on next season and make us stronger.

"We've been unlucky in some games and in others we haven't done enough away from home. It is a learning process and I'm sure we will be better next season."

Everton went on to clinch a Champions League place via their fourth place finish in the Premiership and Ledley agrees this achievement should inspire the teams around them.

"Yes I think so, you look at both Everton and Bolton. They have had great seasons and it shows that any team who get that good team spirit and grind out results can put themselves right up the league."

Hard though it may be to believe considering his level of performance last term, Ledley feels there are still areas for improvement in his game. An ever present for us in the Premiership, he also chipped in with three goals during season 2004-05.

"There are plenty of things - you can never stop improving and I am still learning all the time. I believe I will come back a better player next season as well.

"You learn things from playing games and it makes you a better player.

"Was it three goals? Sometimes I forget my goals, as if I score loads!

"It is nice to chip in with a few goals, even though I think I should score more. I am still not happy with the total and, if I can stop the little nicks off me at the wrong end, and score a few more at the right one I will be happy."
