Ledley's fogged off!

Posted on 17 November 2000 - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

You would forgive Ledley King for thinking that fate is conspiring against him.
He made a superb full debut against Derby County last season only to suffer a knee injury that ruled him out until May.
When he finally returned he played well enough against Manchester United and Sunderland to earn a place in England’s squad for the European Under-21 Championship in the summer.
King was a revelation and arguably the find of the tournament but just as he might have been thinking about his goals for this season, he broke a bone in his foot in the final seconds of the final match.
That injury kept him on the sidelines until September and since then he has impressed in a new midfield role in comeback games for the reserves — enough to win a place back in the first-team squad.
However, he had yet to feature in a senior game this season until being recalled to the Under-21s squad and starting line-up for this week’s friendly against Italy.
Just as he was set for his first senior 90 minutes of the season things turned against him again — this time thick fog descended and forced the abandonment of the game after just 11 minutes!
King commented: “I was looking forward to getting a game under my belt for the Under-21s, my first one of the season, but unfortunately the fog destroyed the game and we only got to play 10 minutes.
“I enjoyed the experience last time with the Under-21s and I was looking forward to this game. I was disappointed with how it turned out.”
There may still be a silver lining for the 20-year-old. With Ben Thatcher suspended and Sol Campbell and Mauricio Taricco both out injured he could well figure in George Graham’s plans for Sunday’s visit of Liverpool.
King, who actually made his debut at Anfield back in 1999, added: “You never know. All I can do is keep training hard and if I do get chucked in hopefully I’ll be ready for it. I’ve played quite a few different positions and I’m ready for any one that I’m put into.
“If the chance does come along I’ll prepare myself and try to do the best job I can. I’m just looking to push on now. Hopefully can get into the first team and push on from there.”
To listen to Ledley's thoughts, click here

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
