Ledley's career celebrated at Testimonial Gala Dinner

The Spurs family paid tribute to one of our own on Tuesday night as we celebrated the career of Ledley King at his Testimonial Gala Dinner.

A one-club man, Ledley gave us almost 15 years of service, progressing through the Academy to make his first team debut in 1999.

He went on to play over 300 times for us, captaining the team through most of his playing career and led us to the League Cup triumph over Chelsea in 2008, his highlight.

Unfortunately, injury forced Ledley to call time on his career last summer, although as one era ended, another began and he’s now relishing his new role as Club Ambassador.

Ledley was joined by family and friends, team-mates, coaches, directors and celebrity Spurs fans at the event at Hilton Park Lane.

The evening – hosted by Spurs fans Claire Tomlinson, of Sky Sports and Jeff Brazier, famed for his turns on Dancing on Ice and I’m A Celebrity and regular appearances on This Morning – included a welcome by our Chairman, Daniel Levy and a speech by Boris Johnson, Mayor of London.

Daniel described the evening as ‘a wonderful occasion for a wonderful footballer’.

The Chairman continued: “The number of people here, players past and present, dignitaries, friends, family and supporters, just shows how highly Ledley is regarded among people from all walks of life.

“Tonight’s prestigious event is a celebration of Ledley’s career and achievements – a night to remember a true Spur and an outstanding role model, whose commitment to our Club will be forever recognised.”

There was also an auction to raise funds for Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Youth Projects for Team London (regeneration of Tottenham), tributes to Ledley and finally a speech from the great man himself.

“It’s a great feeling to be here,” said Ledley. “No-one likes to call time on their playing career but my time had come and it’s great that I get to see so many friends who I played with and against over the years.”
