One of the finds of Euro 2004, Ledley, still only 23, has 130 first-team appearances to his name already.
He knows it's time to step up. "We've got a young squad and I'm one of the most experienced players in there," he stated.
"I've got to help the younger ones as some of the older players helped me when I was coming through.
"I have to use my experience on the pitch to help them. I still class myself as quite a young player but with the squad here I have to step up and be more of a leader."
Meanwhile, the cultured centre-back insisted the lads were raring to go against Liverpool on Saturday after a busy pre-season programme.
"We've had a few new faces arrive and it's been ideal for them to play the friendly games straight away.
"We've had to gel and find our way of playing with the new manager and staff and we've needed games to get everything going.
"I thought it came together pretty well against Liverpool, especially with so many players making their debuts."
Ledley King says it's time to 'grow up' as a player and become more of a leader at Spurs.
