Our skipper and central defender had fluid on his left knee after his impressive return to the national side in what was a disappointing draw against Macedonia at Old Trafford on Saturday. He didn’t train on Monday and stayed at home when the squad flew out to Zagreb on Tuesday.
Martin Jol reported: “Ledley had a slight problem with fluid on his knee after the Macedonia game and England have made the right decision not to take him to Croatia.
“He has had this problem for the last couple of weeks, he plays and then afterwards he has a little inflammation or fluid but after a couple of days rest, he’s fine and able to play again.
“I don’t think he would have been able to play tomorrow because it’s still a problem - if a player isn’t 100 per cent fit, he’s not fit and you are better not taking any risks."
Ledley King returned to Spurs Lodge on Tuesday afternoon after withdrawing from the England squad travelling to Croatia for Wednesday night's European Championship qualifier.
