The striker suffered an ankle injury late in Sunday's 3-3 draw against Middlesbrough, forcing him off at the Riverside Stadium.
Head Coach Martin Jol thought initially that the problem would keep him out for up to two weeks but Jermain has responded well to treatment this week and has not yet been ruled out for the Boxing Day game kicking-off at 1pm at the Lane.
Martin reported on Friday afternoon: "Jermain will have a late test. He hasn't trained with us but he looks okay, hopefully.
"He will have a test tomorrow and again on Sunday."
