Our Academy squad travelled to Belgium on Thursday to defend their Eurofoot Tournament title.
The lads were triumphant this time last year after three wins and a draw in five group matches to qualify for the semi-finals where they beat Eintract Frankfurt before hammering Anderlecht 4-0 in the final.
This time around they face matches against Eintract Frankfurt again as well as Dutch club Willem II and three Belgian sides in KAA Gent, Standard Liege and Germinal Beerscho.
They play two matches on Friday and another three on Saturday to try and reach Sunday's final stages again.
However, as coach Alex Inglethorpe explained, it's a different set of circumstances this year.
"It's a different situation in so much that we were perhaps physically a little stronger and a bit more experienced with the likes of Tomas Pekhart and Jake Livermore around and this time we're much younger.
"We're just as excited and we've some top teams to play again.
"It's probably a bit cyclical in these tournaments. We did well last year but the year before that, although we didn't do as well, the experience the lads gained from playing was of a hige benefit as we saw inthe Eurofoot, Montey and Dusseldorf. Maybe it will be the same case this year.
"As always, we have high expectations but we also realise that the squad is at a different stage to last year.
"It will be a challenge as well as we are defending the title and everyone will want to beat us. Teams will have a respect for us and we will have to play like champions."
