Spurs Ladies banished a run of defeats in the FA Women's Premier League South with a fine 2-0 win at Brighton on Sunday.

The newly-promoted team had lost six games on the trot after a fine start to the campaign.

However, goals from Emma Plewa and Jenna Schillaci (pictured) turned that form around in front of over 500 fans at the Withdean Stadium - Brighton & Hove Albion first team's stadium before this summer's switch to the Amex.

"This is the result we've been waiting for after what has been a testing few weeks," said manager Karen Hills.

"I knew it wouldn't be long before we put in a great team performance."

Chelsea Gooding stepped up for her first team debut and impressed in midfield as Spurs started brightly.

Jenna's free-kick struck the crossbar and Emma reacted quickest to slot home the rebound.

Brighton responded but Derrie O'Hallaran cleared off the line and then when a free-kick from the home side struck the woodwork, captain Sam Pittuck was first to react and clear the danger.

The teams cancelled each other out somewhat in the second half although Emma started to cause havoc down the left-hand side. She made two or three excellent runs and eventually it paid off as she got to the byline and crossed for Jenna to slot home and secure the points.

"We did our homework on Brighton and the girls did what I asked of them and came away worthy winners,"added Karen.

"We must now carry that momentum into next week’s game which is going to be a hard-fought away contest against struggling Millwall Lionesses."

Spurs Ladies: Jo Ayre, Derrie O’Halloran (Kirsten Thompson, 78), Sam Pittuck (C), Ebony Heath, Rhya Vyse, Emma Plewa, Nicola Cable, Chelsea Gooding, Robyn McEvoy, Jenna Schillaci, Wendy Martin.
