The full-back enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough season in 2011-12 where his performances earned a first England call and the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
That season was also the start of an incredibly consistent run where he started 98 or 101 Premier League matches between September, 2011 and February, 2014.
However, he was then sidelined for nine months by an abdominal problem and just four months into his return, he suffered a foot injury in April that ended last season early.
Now he’s back and flying in pre-season. “I’d never had to deal with injuries before the problems in 2013-14 and then last season,” he said. “I’d started so many games consecutively before that.
“Hopefully I’ve got my injuries out of the way and I can have a healthy run now.
“I’ve matured as a player and a person and I think I’ve a lot more to give to Tottenham, to myself and to England. I’m excited about this season.”
