Korsten forced to retire

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Regretfully, Willem Korsten has been forced to retire from playing on medical grounds.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></FONT></B><P><P>Following recurrent hip problems we received specialist advice from two senior European consultants that it is no longer possible for Willem to continue as a professional footballer.<o:p></o:p></FONT></B><P>Willem (26), a former Dutch Under-21 international, joined us from Vitesse Arnhem in May, 1999, and played in 26 senior games for us, scoring three goals. <o:p></o:p></FONT></B><P>Said manager Glenn Hoddle:<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp&#59; </SPAN>&ldquo&#59;This is obviously a terrible blow for both Willem and the club. I always rated him as a player with great potential and he was a pleasure to work with.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp&#59;</SPAN>He is also a great lad who was always a popular member of the squad.<o:p></o:p></FONT></B><P>&ldquo&#59;We wish him all the best for the future on whatever avenue he decides to follow and will always welcome him back at White Hart Lane.&rdquo&#59;<o:p></o:p></FONT></B><P>&nbsp&#59;
