Kids aim to build

English Barclays Premiership

Our youngsters will be looking to build on their magnificent starts in the FA Premier Academy League on Saturday.

Both age groups won their opening fixtures last weekend and now both return to action against teams who also started with a win. The Under-17s face Crewe at Spurs Lodge while the Under-19s face a long trip to Huddersfield.

Coach Michael Stone is expecting a tricky weekend. "Crewe have always been well-known for their youth set-ups and both them and Huddersfield won their first games," he said. "It will be difficult for us but we were delighted with how we started."

It was a perfect start last Saturday. The Under-17s completed a superb 2-1 success at Leeds United thanks to goals from John Sutton after 38 minutes and the winner from David Galbraith with 15 minutes left.

Meanwhile the Under-19s, managed by Pat Holland (pictured right), toppled Blackburn Rovers at Spurs Lodge with strikes from Clayton Fortune and Maurizio Consorti.

Stone added: "They were both very strong opposition to start the season off against and we completed two very good wins. The Under-17 result was particularly pleasing because their pre-season programme was badly affected by injuries. We were delighted."
