'Steo' made rapid strides last term after impressing in loan spells at Southend, QPR and Watford and, having made his full debut in December, filled in impressively for Stephen Carr for the final five games of the season.
"It's great news for me," smiled Stephen from our base near Gothenburg. "It's two more years at the club and gives me more time to try and progress and try to get a few more games.
"I had a year left and I suppose it's nice to be wanted. It gives you that extra security and an extra boost of confidence, especially with a new manager coming in, knowing he wants to keep you.
"It's something that is at the back of your mind when you are a young player - will you be here next year or how long will you get to try and get into the team and improve - but I've two years with the new management and hopefully they will help my progress.
"I've played on loan in every division, got my chance here at the end of last season and now I've got the opportunity to play a little longer."
Stephen Kelly has expressed his delight at extending his current deal at the club.
