Stephen Kelly has been named in new manager Steve Staunton's first Republic of Ireland squad.

Stephen Kelly has been named in new manager Steve Staunton's first Republic of Ireland squad.

A regular and captain at Under-21 level, 'Steo' is joined by another four newcomers in the squad for the friendly against Sweden at Lansdowne Road on March 1.

Robbie Keane is also named in the 23 but Andy Reid misses out as he recovers from a knee injury.

Staunton said: "I have been looking at a lot of players very closely over the last month and the time is right to give some new lads the opportunity to play at senior level."
