Radek arrived from Czech outfit Slavia Prague in January following the departure of Kasey Keller to Borussia Monchengladbach.
He made six appearances for the reserves while sitting on the bench as cover for Paul Robinson before being thrown in at the deep end when Robbo was injured against Aston Villa.
The injury handed Radek the gloves for the final two games of the Premier League season and he produced faultless displays against Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers.
Hans said: "We’d been working together for a few months but the acid test is on a Saturday afternoon.
"Out of nowhere he had to come on and he did well. I was a little nervous about how he would react because goalkeeping in the Premier League is different from the continent.
"But he stood up and he was outstanding in the last game against Blackburn.
"One of his great points is he has great hands and his agility is second to none. I call him the Spring Chicken from the Czech Republic!
"He has experience and that’s what we needed. I’m pleased we’ve got Radek.
"He has great technique and can kick well as well. People say to me he can’t kick as well as Robbo but if you are going to compare every keeper's kicking to Robbo, they will all fall short!"
Hans Segers gives his assessment of how our goalkeepers performed last season - next up, Radek Cerny.
