Carlo Cudicini reflected on a tough pre-season so far and smiled: "You see, goalkeepers do run!"
Carlo has been joined by David Button at our training camp in the south-west and it's been noticeable that the keepers have been clocking up the miles alongside the rest of the squad in these early stages of pre-season.
Indeed, the pair ran one of the toughest sessions yet - Monday's sprint endurance - before returning to goalkeeping duties.
As Carlo pointed out, it's a far cry from the theory that keepers don't necessarily have to put in the leg work.
"Football has changed," said Carlo. "Perhaps when my father played (Fabio, the former AC Milan goalkeeper) it was different and they wouldn't run, but now a goalkeeper is part of the team.
"Of course, we do different things as well, our goalkeeping work, but in the first days we basically do what the rest of the team do. After that, we work more specifically with Tony (Parks, goalkeeping coach).
"It's been fine so far and we're working more and more now on the goalkeeping training.
"The most important thing for everyone is to stay injury-free in pre-season so everyone can prepare themselves for a long season."
