Keano's Italian job!

Robbie Keane struck late in Italy to maintain the Republic of Ireland's hopes of automatic World Cup qualification.

The Republic's captain and record goalscorer equalised three minutes from time after Italy had taken the lead through Vincenzo Iaquinta's 11th-minute goal at Bari's San Nicola Stadium on Wednesday night.

The draw means the Republic remain two points behind Italy in the Group Eight table but, crucially, still five ahead of Bulgaria, who earlier beat Cyprus 2-0 in Sofia.

Aaron Lennon got the nod to start England's WC qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley and played well in the first half before being replaced by David Beckham in the 59th minute. England won 2-1 with goals from Peter Crouch and John Terry to stay top of Group Six.

Croatia are leading the chasing pack in Group Six after a 2-0 win in Andorra. Vedran Corluka played 90 minutes, Luka Modric was an unused substitute.

Alan Hutton completed a full shift for Scotland against Iceland in his first competitive start since November. The full-back is back after a foot injury and enjoyed a successful return as Scotland produced a vital 2-1 win at Hampden Park as they compete for runners-up spot in Group Nine.

In Group Four, Gareth Bale played 90 minutes and Chris Gunter came on after 55 minutes as Wales lost 2-0 to leaders Germany at the Millennium Stadium. Meanwhile, Roman Pavlyuchenko played 84 minutes of Russia's 1-0 win in Liechtenstein, keeping the Russians within reach of the top.
