Robbie Keane says the players are seeking maximum points from the three remaining games of the season.
It is a tough call, with trips to Aston Villa and Wolves left, along with a home game against Blackburn. However, Robbie says the players are all aware that they shouldn't be in the position of needing points to lift away from the drop zone at this stage of the season - and should be making an impression at the other end.
"Just look around at the players we have, we know we shouldn't be in this situation," pondered an honest Robbie. "I'm sure Blackburn will think the same along with Everton and Man City.
"That is the way it has gone this year and we need to rectify that now in the games left."
Robbie makes a valid point when he reflected that the team have given a good account of themselves against most of the top of the table sides. Liverpool, Newcastle and Villa have taken nothing from the Lane, Arsenal taking a point and narrow defeats to Chelsea and Manchester United.
"We are looking for maximum points, although it will be tough. We made it hard for ourselves, but we know we can compete against the top teams and there is never really much in it when we do.
"We know we've got a good squad of players and we know we haven't done as well as we can do. We will be trying in the next few games to get away from that bottom four."
