Both Kasey and his rival are with the USA squad in Dublin for tonight's friendly against Ireland.
It will be a tough decision for coach Bruce Arena. Friedel has been in fine form for Blackburn Rovers all season but Kasey has done the business for USA - he led them to Gold Cup glory on home soil back in January.
Kasey has also returned to our starting line-up and impressed again on international duty despite a heavy defeat in Germany last time out.
So how did Kasey felt it stood? "I don't have a clue!" he said. "We'll see what happens.
"Obviously getting games now here at Tottenham is helping that side of things, having success with the US in the Gold Cup when I was over there has helped things as well.
"I just need to keep it going in the next few games, try to play well and hopefully that will be enough."
Kasey will hope to get his chance against Ireland. "It's a big game for us," he said. "We had a couple of tough games in Italy and Germany and this is continuing that theme.
"Ireland are a very difficult team, especially in Dublin and we know we have a tough game ahead of us.
"We've won all our games at home and lost the games outside of the US. We played very well in Italy and were unfortunate not to come out with anything but Germany took it to us and we deserved what we got there."
