Kanoute on new City boss

Posted on 18 March 2005  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Fredi Kanoute is convinced the respect Stuart Pearce commanded as a player can only help as he turns to management at Manchester City.

Saturday's league clash at the Lane is the Forest and England legend's first game in charge following the departure of Kevin Keegan.

Fredi knows first hand about the impact Pearce can have within a squad.

Pearce, who won 78 England caps and actually first tasted management at Forest in 1996-97, played at West Ham between 1999-2001 before finishing his playing days at City.

He has coached at City for the last two years and he's now in the top job, albeit maybe only until the end of the season.

"I knew him as a player," said Fredi, who played for the Hammers between 2000-2003. "He was very tough, very strong and would play even when he was injured.

"He was a leader on the pitch and the kind of man who leads by example. When he was on the pitch he would drive us on, even at 39!

"He helped me to settle at West Ham and was very friendly. I don't know about his ability as a manager but I'm sure he'll do well because of the respect he had as a player.

"He hasn't stopped playing the game for a long time so he knows all about it. He loves football, he's had two years at City as a coach and I'm sure he'll do well."
