Harry Kane grabbed both goals as our Under-18s kicked-off their Premier Academy League campiagn with a 2-1 win at Derby County on Saturday.
Five players made their debuts in the PAL - Kevin Stewart, Ronnie Hawkins, Ramil Sheriff, Kenneth McEvoy and James Yeboah - with Jack Munns making his first start at this level.
That lack of PAL experience mattered little though as the lads dominated the first halfand Kane fired them into the lead with a fine free-kick after 25 minutes.
Derby came back into it in the second half before Olumide Durojaiye sent Kane clear and he made no mistake one-on-one.
The Rams pulled a goal back via a corner with two minutes remaining and coach Alex Inglethorpe admitted that made it an uncomfortable last few minutes, but the lads held on for victory.
"We controlled the game more in the first half, so after an early start, that says a lot about how well the lads prepared," said Alex.
"To be honest, we should have scored more in that first half, but the free-kick was excellent.
"Harry practises free-kicks every day in training and has scored more than his fair share already.
"But we were bit bitty in our play compared to of late. Derby dropped off in the second half and made it difficult to play through them, but we eventually got through when Olumide played a great pass for Harry, who finished well.
"Derby managed to get a goal back late on from a set-piece - that's unusual for us - and we had a couple of nervy moments in the last couple of minutes, but got through it.
"It's always good to win, especially the first game, and we had the added bonus of Jesse Waller Lassen back from injury and playing his first 90 minutes since last April, so that was another positive."
