Harry Kane revealed he was confident in his ability to recover from missing an early penalty in Thursday’s Europa League win over AEL Limassol.

The England Under-21 front man saw his spot kick saved by AEL substitute goalkeeper Pulpo Romero in the 13th minute of our second leg victory but made amends by tucking home our first goal of the night shortly before the break.

Paulinho later joined Harry on the scoresheet before Andros Townsend wrapped up a 3-0 win on the night and a 5-1 victory on aggregate when he scored from the spot.

“Not a lot was going through my head for the penalty,” said Harry. “I tried to keep focused on what I was trying to do, I didn’t change my mind. I knew I was just going to put my foot through it down the middle.

“The keeper normally dives to one side but unfortunately he stuck a leg out and it caught his leg. These things happen in football but it’s about how you react to it and I thought I reacted well by getting a goal in the end.

“It shows what sort of character you’ve got when you miss a penalty – your confidence could drop and you could not play well for the rest of the game but I thought I would get more chances and I said to myself that I would take the next one.

“Fortunately, Paulinho put me through and I was able to take it. I had a couple more in the second half which the keeper saved but I feel confident and every time I get chances I feel I can score.”

In addition to securing our place in the Group Stage, Harry felt we ticked another box by keeping our supporters entertained.

“We’re obviously very happy,” he continued. “We wanted to win this game and put on a show for the fans and I thought we did that. As a team we played very well – we scored our goals and kept a clean sheet, which was great. Now we’re looking forward to the game against Liverpool on Sunday.”
