Younes Kaboul is counting down the days to Everton and insists: “We’re getting stronger.”
The defender played 90 minutes and scored in Saturday’s 3-2 win against Championship side Brighton as recovered from going behind and a tricky first half at the official opening of the Amex Stadium.
The first team squad has now been involved in six friendlies including three in the Vodacom Challenge in South Africa, MK Dons, Leyton Orient and Brighton.
Next up is our final friendly as we return to White Hart Lane on Saturday to face Athletic Club Bilbao, fifth in La Liga last term, before the Premier League opener against the Toffees at the Lane on August 13.
“We’re getting fit and that’s most important,” said Younes. “We will improve more, we’re working hard every day and we now have a big game against Bilbao and then it’s the start of the season. We’re all preparing for that.”
Younes admitted to being taken somewhat by surprise with the quality of Brighton’s football on Saturday.
“It wasn’t easy for us,” he added. “They are very good team with clever movement and played well in the first half.
"We were a little surprised but we reacted well, scored and that put us back in the game. After that we showed our quality and won the game.”
