Trophy in hand, Clive Allen wore a contented smile after his reserve side marked their presentation night with a win against Coventry City.

That smile might have been slightly harder to find if things hadn't gone to plan on the pitch against a competitive Sky Blues side but Johnnie Jackson's magnificent strike to clinch the 1-0 victory was worthy of the occasion.

'Jacko' unleashed an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 25 yards after 57 minutes to take maximum points and secure a 15th win in the reserves' last 17 league matches.

It was another goal to remember for fans in our last home fixture of the season and they stayed in numbers for the presentation of the Barclays Premiership Reserve League South trophy at Stevenage Borough's Broadhall Way.

Development coach Clive beamed: "It was always going to be tough against Coventry, they are in good form and we knew it would be a fiesty game - the first of two against them with our final match of the season at Coventry in a couple of weeks.

"Once again, when the lads were asked to produce the goods they've done a great job.

"They've done superbly from the seniors through to the Academy players and I'd like to thank them all for their efforts throughout the season.

"The culmination of those efforts is the title and this beautiful trophy."

Our reserves' final league match is away to Coventry on Tuesday April 25 before a one-off play-off final against the winners of the Northern section - Manchester United are currently six points clear of Villa although Villa have two games in hand. Middlesbrough are a further two points adrift.

There will be a re-presentation and parade of the trophy during half-time of our Easter Monday clash against Manchester United at the Lane.
