Jurgen: "I'm a big admirer of Harry Kane"

Spurs hero and one of the world's greatest-ever goalscorers, Jurgen Klinsmann, has described Harry Kane as the 'complete' striker.

World Cup and European championship winner, 47 goals in 108 caps for Germany and 226 goals in 506 league appearances across a 17-year career, Jurgen lit up the Lane in two spells in 1994-95 and 1997-98.

Harry, 24, is already our record goalscorer in the Premier League (now 105) seventh in our all-time goalscoring list with 137 goals in 210 appearances.

Capped 23 times by England, Harry has scored 12 international goals and captained his country on four occasions. He could well lead the Three Lions into this summer's World Cup.

Speaking to us from California, Jurgen, now 53, told us: "I’m a big admirer of Harry.

"He’s very complete in his game. He can score with his left foot, right foot, his head and he’s a great passer of the ball. He’s a great connector as well, a little like Teddy was. He was always complete as a player as well.

"I’m even happier because he comes out of that great culture created by Spurs, a product of the Academy. That makes you super-proud because you feel even more connected with him.

"I just think that the foundation of every club in the world is its own products, its own players. 

"He’s down to earth because he grew up with this balance and the hard-working, grounded environment at Spurs. That makes him who he is and of course, he’s worked tremendously hard for it.

"I always say to people ‘you are a child of your environment’ and Harry is certainly a child of the Spurs environment. That makes me really happy."

Snapped up from AS Monaco after the 1994 World Cup, Jurgen scored 29 goals in all competitions in 1994-95 as we reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and finished seventh in the Premier League. His performances and personality wowed fans beyond Spurs and he was named Football Writers' Footballer of the Year.

Jurgen returned in 1997-98 with the team in a little trouble at the wrong end of the table but again delivered when it mattered in a must-win game at Wimbledon in May 1998  - his four goals spearheaded a 6-2 win to allay any lingering fears of relegation.

The final league goal of his career came in his final appearance - a volley into the top corner against Southampton at the Lane on May 10, 1998, almost 20 years ago.
