Steven Caulker and Danny Rose helped England Under-21s to top spot in European U21 Championship qualifying - but Jordan Archer missed out with Scotland.

Steven and Danny both played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as England beat Norway 1-0 in the showdown to decide the winners of Group Eight.

Connor Wickham's goal just before half-time was enough to see England top the group by five points.

Harry Kane and Adam Smith remained unused substitutes at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium.

England will now be seeded in Friday's play-off draw - but they won't be joined by Jordan's Scotland after their late loss in Austria.

Scotland needed a win to have a chance of qualifying for the play-offs as one of the four best runners-up, but Austria ran out 3-2 winners thanks to a goal in injury time.

Jordan played the full 90 minutes as Scotland came from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 with just 15 minutes remaining, but Austria scored in the 76th and 91st minutes to turn it around again.

The play-offs take place in October on a home and away basis with the seven winners joining hosts Israel in the finals next summer.
