Steffen lined-up at left midfield for Norway against Ireland, putting him directly up against right-back Stephen.
It has to be said that Stephen came out on top as he created Ireland's goal in the 1-0 win and then came closest to a second goal when he hit the underside of the crossbar in the second half.
Meanwhile, Steffen suffered more than most in what was a competitive friendly at Lansdowne Road - cracking his rib in the second.
Steffen was quick to point out that it wasn't Stephen who did the damage as he nursed his side back at Spurs Lodge on Thursday.
"I felt fine during the game and it was good to come up against Carry," reflected Steffen. "It was a battle and I knew it would be like that. We know each other so well, know the strengths and weaknesses and it was a tough and fair game.
"The only down side is that I've got a fracture in one of my ribs. It wasn't Carry though, so I'll let him off! It happened in a challenge with someone else in the second half.
"It's not too much of a problem though and I'm not too bothered. The pain will wear off over the weekend and I should be training again on Monday."
Steffen Iversen said he relished every minute of his international battle against Spurs team-mate Stephen Carr - but it came at a price.
