Our first assistant coach played a friendly against the Glasgow outfit during his days in England at Coventry City.
"It was a long time ago, in the early 1980s," recalled Martin. "I'm sure it was with Coventry. We were on tour, played against Rangers and it was unbelievable.
"When you play friendlies in Holland you might only get one or two thousand spectators but we played in front of 30,000 that day.
"I can remember they were so loud that we couldn't hear anything from the coach on the bench and could barely hear ourselves on the pitch. It was amazing."
Martin expects a tough test from the Scottish giants who are further down their pre-season preparations with the SPL kicking-off on August 7. They recently beat Fulham in a friendly at Craven Cottage.
"They have a settled team, so that helps them as well, whereas we've signed a few new players," he added.
"We need a game with our strongest eleven because up to now we've played mixed teams.
"Our training sessions have been more important that the results of friendlies so far but from now we need to look at the games as well.
"Rangers will be a good start for us in that respect."
Martin Jol knows exactly what to expect when we step out at Ibrox for tonight's pre-season friendly against Rangers.
