Goals from Robbie Keane and Lee Barnard secured the win against the national team on our brief end of season tour of the island.
As expected, we held the upper hand throughout at the Anjalay Stadium but Mauritius stuck at their guns defensively and always tried to play a passing game - never easy on a dry, bumpy playing surface.
Head Coach Martin said: “We looked forward to this game although we were a bit worried because you never know about the strength of the Mauritian team.
“They had some talent but we coped well with that and the pitch which was a bit dry.
“We did well to keep possession in midfield but it wasn’t the conditions for us to score a lot of goals. Mauritius were strong defensively and they were quite dangerous on the counter attack but the final pass was difficult on the pitch.
“We wanted to perform and we did that, we wanted to take the game seriously and we did that as well.
“We kept a clean sheet and scored two goals and this is a national team, so I’m satisfied.”
Martin Jol declared himself satisfied with the performance and 2-0 victory against Mauritius on Friday.
