"Here we played nearly a totally different team, with only three starters from the last game against Kaizer Chiefs," reflected Martin. "Anthony Gardner played nearly all the game on Saturday and played again because I wanted to spare Michael Dawson who picked up a little knock.
"Pirates were a lively team who played with a good rhythm and we gave away three chances when we shouldn't have done. We have to forgive the players though because it was a first game for a few of them.
"Darren Bent took his goal really well from a very good pass from Tom Huddlestone, he attacked the space to score and that is what we expect from him.
"They put us under pressure a bit later on and, after we scored our second, the penalties made it pretty exciting. I thought it was a good work out.
"I thought JJ was terrific in midfield, but I had to substitute him after playing in both matches so he is okay for the final. We had good performances out there against a strong team who proved to be good opponents."
