"I said we might and it's nice that it's happened," reflected John back at Spurs Lodge after victory over Middlesbrough made it nine points out of nine. "It was important that we did, obviously Man Utd was a bit of a downer, but it breeds character and they've proved that.
"It was a very hard game on Saturday, people under-estimate teams like Middlesbrough, but they've got good players like Boksic, Ince and Southgate, really good players, and we were delighted to get a result because it was a hard fought game."
Games against teams like Boro can have a banana skin effect on teams doing well, Glenn even said pre-match that he would rather be playing Arsenal.
"At least then the expectancy isn't so high," he explained. "It was high against Boro from everybody and people say 'you can beat them...', but that's not true because Middlesbrough are difficult and it was a great result.
"It was well deserved. They did not hurt us much apart from the goal and we had to be patient and break them down. We knew it would be difficult, we knew it would take time and it proved to be a hard game and we're delighted with the result."
John went on to reveal how the coaching staff approach bringing the lads back down to earth after a win and the timescale involved in focusing on the next game.
"Mondays it is hard to do that and it's a case of 'let's enjoy it'. We came in and there was a great spirit in the dressing room and training pitch. We were light hearted with the training and it was not as difficult as normal, but we start proper work again on a Wednesday.
"Not always working harder, just doing things right and professionally. Light hearted on Monday, then we get back to it and change the focus towards the weekend as we always do. Get the injuries cleared up and prepare for the game three days before.
"Totally concentrate on the next team we're playing, which is Leeds United."
John Gorman hinted after the defeat to Manchester United that he could see a run of wins coming - and he is happy to be proved right.
